1) LONDON IMPROVISERS ORCHESTRA - 'Responses, Reproduction & Reality' - EMANEM 4110
From two freedom of the city festivals, with around 30 musicians performing: - conceptions by SIMON H FELL, CAROLINE KRAABEL (featuring guest Jaap Blonk), DAVID LEAHY, and PHILIPP WACHSMANN;
- conductions by PAT THOMAS (featuring John Butcher, Lol Coxhill, Harrison Smith, Ian Smith, Alan Tomlinson and others) and DAVE TUCKER (featuring Steve Beresford, Adam Bohman, Tom Chant, B J Cole, Roland Ramanan, Orphy Robinson, Paul Rutherford, Alan Tomlinson, Veryan Weston and others);
- and a free improvisation. 2) PAUL DUNMALL 'In Your Shell Like' - EMANEM 4111 This Brussels concert starts with a drone-based duo featuring Dunmall’s border pipes & soprano saxophone and STEVIE WISHART’s hurdy-gurdy. The second agitated duo features Dunmall’s tenor saxophone with PAUL LYTTON’s percussion. Then, unbelievably, all three play together and make this unlikely combination of instruments work. 3) VERYAN WESTON / JOHN EDWARDS / MARK SANDERS ‘Gateway to Vienna’ - EMANEM 4214 2-CD set. Following the critical success of their Mercury Concert EMANEM 4028, this finest of piano/bass/drums acoustic improvising groups can be heard in two major helpings of music - six medium-length pieces recorded at Gateway Studios in London, and two extended workouts from a gig at the Porgy & Bess Club in Vienna.
